May 2011 Athlete of the Month: Mike Bunner

Rangers Lead the Way

Mike came out of nowhere. One day, new guy shows up. Struggles with some of the movements but obviously has some athleticism in his background. Overhead Squats…Pullups…Double Unders, etc.

But everyone notices that mike comes early and stays late. He seeks out help for tips on how to do this or that. He relentlessly practices his nemesis moves. He rarely misses a day.

Next thing you know, he’s at the head of the pack on the runs…when the pack comes back after a 400m run and most folks take a breath and a sip of water, Mike is already back to the burpees. He’s spotted doing a 495lb dead lift. He’s got the fire.

Mike exemplifies Athlete of the Month in many ways and the trainers were unanimous in their naming of Mike.  He is the type of CrossFit athlete who just wont take “no” for an answer. He pushes himself to achieve whatever he sets his mind to because he won’t settle for less. He never complains, in fact, he welcomes  the “suck” that often comes with a wod.

Congrats Mike – Well Deserved! Here are some words from Mike himself:

How I was introduced to Crossfit: I was introduced to crossfit in the Army back in 2003 by a Navy Seal in Afghanistan. Did it once and fell in love with it.

My favorite WOD/exercise is: Murph is my favorite WOD just because of the answer above and the respect that I have for that man.

My nemesis exercise is: Muscle ups/Double unders/Handstand Push-up…is that enough or should I continue??

Outside the gym, I like to:  Spend time with my little one and do anything outside

My favorite Cheat food is: PIZZA!!!!

My proudest accomplishment is: Raising a little girl

My six month goal is: is to get down to 7% BMI

If I created a WOD and named it after myself what would the workout be: 100 burpee pull-ups, 50 ring dips, 50 wall ball, 50 push-ups, and 1 mile sand bag run.

What do I love most about Power Performance: The good people there that create a great atmosphere to workout in.
