Anita Bell has transformed herself. Not just physically, but mentally. She’s gone from tentative crossfitter to badass-in-training.
CrossFit can be intimidating when someone first begins, and initially, a lot of the movements and lifts gave Anita some pause at times. She would go into a workout questioning whether she would be able to use a certain weight, or complete a set of movements.
But then something happened. It was during a recent “Filthy 50″ workout when suddenly, she was attacking the jumping pullups like they were nothing, wailing on the kbs, and removed FOURTEEN MINUTES from her previous PR. Since there, with some strength training in the Olympic/opt classes, and continued drive toward a winning approach, Anita has become a force to be reckoned with. The trainers are very pleased to name Anita Bell athlete of the Month for April 2011.
Here are some words from Anita:
About My Family: I have a big family and I’m very thankful for each of them. Clyde, my most excellent husband, made me try crossfit and its been a great experience for both of us. I love that it’s a sport we can do together. We have four great kids – Rachael 17, Mary 16, Zach 15, and Olivia 8. They keep me so busy in the evenings I can’t make the fun wods.
How I was introduced to Crossfit: Alicia kept talking to me about trying her new boot camp while we were at the bus stop last year. I was certain I’d never survive, but signed up anyway. After the first two weeks, I signed up for another 2 weeks and Clyde started crossfit so I thought I’d try a class. Soon I moved from boot camp to crossfit. Its always a challenge, but not only have I survived I love it. It’s a miracle since my name has never been mentioned in the same sentence as athlete.
My favorite WOD/exercise is: Overhead squats (or anything with a squat), HSPU’s. I like WOD’s with variety.
My nemesis exercise is: We need a longer page – Snatch, double unders, rope, etc…
Outside the gym, I like to: Spend time with my family, hike, ride my bike, read, gardening
My favorite Cheat food is: Mexican Food especially chips and salsa, guacamole, and enchiladas. Oh yeah, sangria and margaritas!
My proudest accomplishment is: My kids
My six month goal is: To improve my time during the wods. 10 unbroken pull ups and double unders.
If I created a WOD and named it after myself what would the workout be: Anita: 5 Rounds 5 HSPU, 10 burpees, 7 overhead squats
What do I love most about Power Performance: That’s easy. The support and friendship I feel every time I come to class. It doesn’t matter if the class is full of newbies or old pros we all work together. Even on days I don’t think I’ll make it through (and there are many), someone will be cheering me on to the end. Thanks to all the athletes at Power Performance.
